Spring Style Guide | Seattle Portrait Photographers | Evidence of Life Photography

Image
Above all, we believe what you wear to your portrait session should reflect your character and personal style. But, if you feel like you're stuck or unsure how to plan your wardrobe for photos this spring, here's a little inspiration based on current trends in color and fashion that are sure to help you look and feel fabulous in front of the camera. Styleguide No. 1 Springtime neutrals and flattering silhouettes inform our first style guide. For ultra-flattering photos, try a flowy peasant dress, strappy beige shift dress, or contouring body-con with a mock neck and stripes. Pair with leather knee-high or ankle boots, slender heels, or ballet flats. Extra points for fun tassel earrings! Styleguide No. 2 This styleguide plays with grey tones and works well with pretty much any and all springtime looks. Go with lace-up boots and a flannel for casual shoots, or dress the look up with tailored slacks and sleek Chelsea boots.   Styleguide No. 3 A daring s...

What should we wear to our portrait session? | Showing Personality | Seattle Portrait Photographer | Evidence of Life Photography

Image
A wise lady once said, "everyone is a nerd about something." Even if you aren't Sheldon Cooper, you probably have something you're passionate about and we'd love to incorporate that into your portrait session. This post is about choosing clothing that reflects your personality. The last what to wear post we did was all about helping you choose a color palette and coordinate clothing for family photos (check it out here ). In that post, I chose mostly very simple and classic looks that will photograph well.  Today, I want to share some fun inspiration for showing your personal style and interests in your clothing choices while still choosing items that follow a color scheme that compliments each other. Love comic books? Maybe you want to wear superman socks. Love to read? How about a tee shirt featuring your favorite book cover. Festival goers? Let's dress your little one in a onesie featuring your favorite rock band.... the are so many possibilities! Here are ...

What Should We Wear to Our Portrait Session? | Pop Colors & the Extended Family Portrait | Seattle Portrait Photographer | Evidence of Life Photography

Image
Every so often we post a color and styling inspiration for planning your portrait session. These are not intended to promote dressing a certain way. We want to capture and celebrate your personal style while helping you coordinate outfits that will flow together in your photos. It is possible to take group photos that look cohesive without making everyone wear the same thing.  The more people you have in your photos, the more difficult it can be to coordinate clothing so I want to share some tricks to help you plan. We hope this post will help you find the balance between coordinating your clothing and showing your personality! Questions to Ask Yourself What are you using the photos for? Do you want to hang a big print in the living room? Will the colors and setting of your session fit the style and decor of your home? These are all questions to ask yourself when planning what to wear for your session. Easy Color Palette: Pick two neutrals and a POP color.  When ...

What to Wear | Red Color & Style Inspiration | Seattle Portrait Photography

Image
Trending Hue: Cayenne Red is one of, if not the, strongest of colors in the rainbow. A symbol of power, passion, blood, and love, red is a bold and striking color for your photography session. Since red is truly a brilliant, attention-grabbing color, we recommend peppering your outfit with red accents instead of making red the main color for all garments. Pairing red with denim or darker neutral tones makes for striking images that create lasting impressions on your wall. What to Wear | Violet Color & Style Inspiration | Seattle Portrait Photography

Image
Trending Hue: Radiant Orchid In ancient times, the creation of purple dye was an incredibly lengthy, expensive process. Purple garments became a symbol of wealth and nobility, even royalty; and were sought after world-round. Although violet is now far easier to come by, the color is still associated with its royal roots. A violet-themed outfit exudes playful sophistication and looks great on camera! Small accents of purple, such as scarves and accessories, can also liven up an otherwise muted palette! Fall Newsletter | Evidence Photography & Design | Seattle

Image
Does anyone else feel like fall snuck up on them?  Out of nowhere? Like a shadowy burglar in an old cartoon?  One minute I am celebrating my anniversary with the hubby, drafting my Fantasy Football Team (go team Unger Games!), birthday bar-hopping with the Besties (wow, I can’t believe I said “Besties” – is using teenspeak a sign of getting old?) and suddenly I look around, it’s the day after Labor Day and I’m ordering a triple tall nonfat pumpkin spice latte. How did this happen? Well, it’s a good thing fall is my favorite season. I love cozy wool jackets, hot lattes, falling leaves, Sunday football and fall photo sessions! I know I’ve said it before, but one of the great things about photographing in the fall is that the sun does the most magical things - the way it lights up a field on a sunny evening or casts a diffused glow on an overcast afternoon. Even getting photographed under umbrellas in the rain is fun (though totally not limited to the fall whe...

What to Wear | Orange Color & Style Inspiration | Seattle Portrait Photography

Image
Trending Hue: Celosia Orange Orange is a tangy, optimistic color that demands attention! Strong, joyful, and happy, adding orange to your photography session is always a hit on camera. Those with a more extroverted nature might enjoy orange-themed outfits. Orange can look wonderful both in a field of grass as well as in urban settings, such as against concrete, brick, and stone. I think orange makes a nice transitional hue from summer into fall. When you are choosing clothing for your photo session, keep in mind how you are looking to use your photos. If you plan to hang large art pieces made from the photos in your home, you will want to consider how your photo location and colors will look in the room. For engaged couples, consider matching one of your engagement session outfits to your wedding colors for coordinated photos to display at your wedding. Trending Hue: Hemlock Nothing says fresh and new quite like the color green! Green comes in a wide array of shades, ranging from a yellowish, pea-like hue all the way to turquoise! Green looks beautiful combined with earth tones, and therefore makes a wonderful choice for outdoor shoots and backdrops of wood and stone. Even small accents of green, such as jewelry, scarves, or shoes, look wonderful with whites and tans. What to Wear | Yellow Color & Style Inspiration | Seattle Portrait Photography

Image
Trending Hue: Freesia Ah, yellow! The color of happiness, of light and sunshine. Yellow is a wonderful color to wear in outdoor, buttery natural-light shoots, and looks amazing on camera! Although yellow can be difficult for some to wear because of its tendency to wash out skin tones, patterns with yellow or a single yellow garment in an otherwise neutral palette adds wonders to your images. Adding yellow florals, jewelry, or accents also helps to make your photos go “POP!”. We love yellow!

Spring Newsletter | Evidence Photography & Design | Seattle Family Photographer

Springtime, the only pretty ring time, birds sing-a-ding-a-ding-a-ding-ding... sweet lovers love the spring! If you're like me, those lyrics conjure up pictures of Willy Wonka singing while pedaling the bicycle contraption in his inventing room rather than green grass and budding flowers, nonetheless, it is officially spring! And as all good Seattle-ites know, that means finding the delicate balance of rainshine and sunshowers! So let's break out our rainboots and find those lost sunglasses to celebrate! Our clients are what makes our job completely amazing. Getting to know each one of you and then telling your story through beautiful images is so rewarding. We truly treasure the time we spend with you before, during, and after our photo session, and consider many of you good friends long after the shutter snaps. We love every minute of what we do, and it’s because you, our clients, are such amazing people to work with. Thank you for continuing to be completely awesom...

We are believers that what you wear in your photos should ultimately reflect your personal style yet we know that sometimes you need a little help finding what's right for you.
