One Thousand and One Nights | Evidence Photography & Design | Seattle Child Photographer
“Is it
possible, that by telling these tales, one might indeed save one’s self?”
A beautifully bound edition of Arabian Nights (also know as One Thousand and One Nights) sits on
the shelf in our living room. Admiring the cover, our niece asked what the
story was about. I explained that a woman was about to be sentenced to death by
the Sultan, and told exciting stories to him every night and was able to live a
very long time escaping her punishment. Upon being asked if she had any stories she
wanted to tell with pictures, she said “Yes” and picked up a pile of leftover
peacock feathers from my wedding, a walking stick she took home from Snoqualmie
Falls, and a stash of fabrics and ribbon.
“What is your story about?”
“A peacock and a crow.”
“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies, said Jojen. The man who never reads lives only one.”
